Out of 1586 entries, Dylan Humphries’ poem ‘Go Kart’ was one of only 60 poems to be shortlisted in the 2017 Suffolk Young Poets Competition. Dylan was awarded a Highly Commended certificate from this annual competition, one of the UK’s oldest poetry showcases for children’s writing. The judges select ten winning poems each year and the competition has received over 30,000 entries since it began. Written at the end of Year 7, Dylan’s poem creatively personifies a go kart and clearly captured the imagination of the competition’s judges.
Miss Medcalf, Dylan’s English Teacher at the time, said “we are very proud of Dylan’s achievement and the effort he put in to his writing, we especially loved the expression “the petrol races through my veins”. We hope many more MCA students will be inspired to enter the competition in future years.”
