Deputy Principal, The Queen Elizabeth Academy
Over the past two years in particular, coaching has been a fundamental element in my professional development. This has been both as a coach and a coachee.
“Coaching has certainly helped me to become a better teacher, a better line manager and a better leader”
Our embedded coaching programme is a powerful form of development that has led to colleagues feeling empowered within their classroom, encouraged to develop their leadership acumen and has led to significant change. By having time specifically dedicated to work together and focusing on professional growth, this has led to colleagues taking control of their own development, pedagogy understanding and success both within and outside of the classroom. The most powerful impact of coaching is that is creates an openness for colleagues to share practice and to take risks in trying new things.
On a personal note, since taking part in the Aspirant System Leaders’ Development Programme, I have had the on-going support of a coach for my Professional Development. This opportunity has provided me with something that is so valuable: dedicated time, away from the day-to-day challenges of my job, to think, reflect, problem-solve and explore alternative solutions to difficult problems or questions. Coaching has certainly helped me to become a better teacher, a better line manager and a better leader.
