EEC Essentials is our brand-new offer for Enabling Education Colleagues- those who perform the vital role of removing barriers to learning, therefore enabling education for our students. EECs include roles such as Teaching Assistants, Pastoral Leads, Attendance Officers and Librarians.

This course aims to provide EECs with a strong knowledge base of the barriers to learning that  students experience, and allows them to see their contribution to the organisational mission. As a  rolling series, colleagues can join the course at any point in the year.

Session 1 Effective Early Help through Pastoral, SEND and Safeguarding Practice

18th November 2025

Learn how to use Parent/Carer Partnership Plans (PPPs) for academy led Early Help. This session covers the essentials of PPPs—what they are, how they contribute to the graduated response when supporting families, and how to implement them. Discover practical strategies for supporting behaviour, wellbeing, and attendance, with a focus on collaboration, strengths-based communication, and continuous review. Real-life scenarios and actionable tips help you lead effective early help meetings and improve outcomes for children and families. This session is suitable for pastoral and attendance EECs looking to further develop skills in working with families.

Session 2 Provision Maps Audit & Interventions

25th November 2025

This session follows on from the PD Day Provision Map training. During the session, you will use an auditing tool to review pupil learning plans and identify areas of strength and areas for development. The session will then explore ‘Tracking Interventions the ATT Way’, including how to add and review provisions and create associated SMART targets.

Session 3 Parental Communications for Classroom-based EECs

9th December 2025

This session empowers staff to build strong, positive relationships with parents and carers by practising strengths-based conversations, mastering effective communication strategies, understanding the root causes of negative interactions, and learning how to approach challenging discussions with sensitivity—using practical tools and case studies to model best practice.

Session 4 Behaviour – A Graduated Response

20th January 2026

This training introduces the graduated response model for behaviour management, emphasising universal, targeted, and specialist support strategies within schools. It highlights the importance of recognising behaviour as communication and provides practical tools for early identification and intervention, especially for students with SEND. The session explores how every interaction can be an intervention, guiding staff to use a strengths-focused approach and adaptive practice to remove barriers and support regulated behaviour. Participants are encouraged to reflect on their own provision and discuss how their universal and targeted offers meet diverse student needs.

Session 5 Effective Multi-Agency Engagement

27th January 2026

This session is designed specifically for pastoral and safeguarding EECs to enhance confidence and competence in multi-agency engagement. This practical workshop explores the graduated approach to working with external services—helping you identify when and how to escalate support, communicate concerns clearly, and collaborate effectively across agencies. Through realistic examples and guided activities, you’ll learn how to write clear, purposeful referrals that achieve meaningful outcomes for students. Equip yourself with the tools, language, and understanding to ensure every child receives the right support, at the right time, from the right people.

Session 6 Attendance – A Graduated Response

24th February 2026

This engaging training session is designed for pastoral and attendance staff who want to make a real difference in improving pupil attendance. Together, we’ll explore the common barriers that keep students from attending school regularly—and practical, empathetic strategies to overcome them. You’ll learn how to use an Attendance Connection Plan to build positive, solution-focused relationships with parents, fostering shared responsibility and trust. By the end of the session, you’ll have practical tools, conversation frameworks, and confidence to support families effectively and improve attendance outcomes across your academy community.

Session 7 Autism Awareness & Inclusion

16th June 2026

This NASEN licensed programme will develop your understanding of the specific needs of autistic pupils and inclusive practices, routines, environment, curriculum and pastoral support to effectively meet their needs.

Introduction

EEC essentials is a rolling series that new colleagues can join at any point during the year. New EEC colleagues will attend the first induction session at the start of term. The session will provide an introduction to the culture of ATT and outline the EEC Essentials programme.
