What Will I Do on My Internship?

Your Teaching Internship will give you a feel for what life as a teacher is like. Over three weeks, you’ll have the chance to:

  • Shadow experienced teachers and observe lessons
  • Jointly plan and teach lessons with experienced teachers
  • Get one-to-one guidance from outstanding classroom teachers and subject specialists
  • See what school life is like for a teacher outside of the classroom.

Your Teaching Internship is the perfect step towards our Initial Teacher Training programme. This school-based teacher training course is a way to gain your PGCE and QTS whilst gaining practical experience in a school environment. It’s fantastic alternative to university-based teaching courses for those who prefer hands-on learning, and your Internship will help you decide whether this is the right path for you.

“There are more hands on aspects, the actual doing. You’re not just sitting in uni for two or three weeks at a time, you’re going out into practise and then doing it and receiving feedback. That way of learning really worked for me” -Rebecca, Trainee Teacher

Who Are ATTI Teaching Internships For?

Teaching Internships are for second or third year undergraduate students who are interested in teaching one of the following subjects: Chemistry, Computing, Maths, Physics, Design & Technology (D&T), or Modern Foreign Languages (MFL). You must be studying for a degree in, or closely related to, the subject you’re interested in teaching.

You’ll also need the right to work in the UK. If you’re an international student, check your visa status carefully to ensure you are allowed to work full-time during term time.

When Will I Do my Internship?

Our three-week Teaching Internships will take place from Monday 22 June to Friday 10 July 2026. Before applying, please make sure you’ll be available to attend your internship for the full time period, which will help you get the most out of your Internship.

Where Can I Do an ATTI Teaching Internship?

You can do a Teaching Internship in any of our secondary academies, which are spread across the Midlands and East of England. Before you apply, you need to make sure that you’ll be based within commuting distance of one of these schools during the Summer Term in 2026.
