“The NPQLT course structure and delivery meant that I could fit it around work and family life. I relished being able to dedicate time to my own development and the content online made this flexible and easier to manage. My NPQ enabled me to engage with the very best of current research-based evidence, and I enjoyed the challenge of putting research into practice”
-Lisa Hamilton, Lead Practitioner in English

The content always seemed to be relevant to my day to day life in school, and I learned so much from discussions with the course facilitators and my fellow course mates”

-Amy Mills, Teacher of Science, The Nicholas Hamond Academy

NPQLPM

A new programme for teachers and leaders who are familiar with mastery approaches to teaching maths. Over 12-months you’ll build on your existing mastery expertise and learn how to embed this across your school.

From autumn 2024, ATTI will be delivering the new NPQSENCO in partnership with Ambition Institute. The 18-month course is for special educational needs co-ordinators (SENCOs), or for teachers and school leaders interested in developing their expertise in special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Improving provision for children with SEND is an area where teachers, schools and trusts regularly say they want support. This new qualification recognises that expertise in SEND is a vital part of school leadership. It draws on the latest evidence and is quality assured by the Education Endowment Foundation.

“I am really enjoying the course. It is well designed and enabling me to complete work in a flexible time frame around my role. I am enjoying having time to read about areas of particular interest and to build my toolkit as a professional.”
-Lucy Rose, Deputy Head Teacher & SENDCO, Barford St Peter’s CE Primary School

NPQSL

A completely updated NPQSL for those who are, or are aspiring to be, a senior leader with cross-school or cross-trust responsibilities.

“The NPQSL has been influential in developing my leadership skills and has encouraged me to think more critically about the role of implementation. It is an excellent course for teachers in Middle and Senior Leadership positions.”
-Joe Morrin, Assistant Principal and ATTI ECF Fellow

“NPQSL allowed me to thoroughly expand my knowledge of what exemplary senior leadership looks like, and to apply this knowledge to my leadership practice in school whilst also boosting my confidence”
-Reece Bhatoe, Trust Secondary Geography Lead and ATTI NPQ Fellow

NPQH

A completely updated NPQH for those who are, or are aspiring to be, a headteacher or head of school.

“The asynchronous learning is very informative and the case studies explore how you would solve issues in your setting. I have thoroughly enjoyed the face to face sessions with facilitators and would highly recommend the course”
-Lisa Macey, Vice Principal, Pool Hayes Academy

“My NPQ provided me with opportunities to network, share experiences and engage in peer coaching with other principals, as well as engaging with highly skilled and experienced leaders who delivered the course”
-Nick Bradnick-Thompson, Principal, North Walsall Academy

Funding

The Department for Education (DfE) can pay the NPQ course fees of teachers and leaders in eligible schools. This is called scholarship funding.

Under 2025 funding criteria, all state schools are eligible for scholarship funding for the NPQH (Headship) and NPQSENCo.

To be eligible to receive scholarship funding for other NPQs, a state shool must be within the top 50% of schools when ranked by the proportion of pupils attracting Pupil Premium funding (a ‘PP50’ school). Other criteria may also apply.

To find out which NPQs your school can get funding for, click here to access the scholarship checking tool, then return to this page to begin your application.

ATTI has a limited number of schoarship funded places available on our NPQ programme, so we can’t guarantee a funded place even if an applicant is from an eligible school.

If you do not work in an eligible school, you have the option to self-fund your NPQ programme. Course costs for Autumn 2025 are set out below.

FAQs

Under 2025 funding criteria, all state schools are eligible to have NPQH (Headship) and NPQSENCo course fees funded by the Department for Education (DfE).

For all other NPQs, the DfE  pays the course fees of teachers and leaders in eligible schools. This is called scholarship funding.

To be eligible to receive scholarship funding, a state shool must be within the top 50% of schools when ranked by the proportion of pupils attracting Pupil Premium funding (a ‘PP50’ school). Other criteria may also apply.

To find out which NPQs your school can get funding for, click here to access the scholarship checking tool, then return to this page to begin your application.

You don’t need to apply for funding separately to your NPQ application. After you apply for the course, we’ll let you know whether we have a funded place available for you. If we offer you a funded place, the DfE will pay the course fees directly to us.

ATTI only has a limited amount of funded places available for our NPQ courses, so depending on applicant numbers, we may not be able to offer them to everyone. Additionally, scholarship criteria mean that your school may not be eligible to receive funding for your chosen programme.

If you’re not able to get funding for your programme, you or your school can choose to self-fund. A breakdown of costs for each course is available in the Funding section of this page. Funding criteria is not set in stone- if you’re not eligible for funding under the current criteria, this may change with future cohorts.

NPQs are delivered through a blend of self-guided online modules, in-person sessions, and online, interactive sessions delivered in real-time by a facilitator.

You’ll need to attend full-day conferences and assessment clinics at one of our ATTI Hubs, in Mildenhall or Sutton Coldfield. Please check that you will be able to travel to one of these locations before you apply.

Generally, it expected that you will be (or are on the path to becoming) the person in your school responsible for leading the area of specialism of the NPQ you choose. For example, if you are a current or aspiring leader of literacy in your school or Trust, the NPQLL in Leading Literacy would be right for you.

If you’re unsure which NPQ could enhance your current teaching practice or best fit with your career aspirations, talk to your PD lead or equivalent.

NPQs are designed for teachers and school leaders, and each one will have its own entry criteria. Check out the Ambition Institute website for more details. Generally, it expected that you will be (or are on the path to becoming) the person in your school responsible for leading the area of specialism of the NPQ you choose.

NPQs are not suitable for Early Career Teachers.
