Matt Iddon has been studying a Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) at Level 6 with the Open University (OU) for over a year. Throughout that time, using the skills, knowledge and understanding that he has gained through the apprenticeship programme, his contribution to his employer (Academy Transformation Trust Further Education (ATTFE)) has been outstanding.
Matt’s role is curriculum lead and Further Education (FE) manager of the Construction Centre on the campus of Dukeries Academy. Matt took on the management role completely unexpectedly following the sudden departure of a senior colleague fifteen months ago, and supported by his apprenticeship training, has turned the Centre into a roaring success. He has more than doubled the number of Construction courses available to young adults (from three to seven) and added specialisms at Level 2 and Level 3 in Joinery, Bricklaying, and Painting and Decorating. The number of full-time learners has doubled to over 50 each year, which generates a funding revenue for ATTFE of £225,000 per annum.
In its outcomes the Centre has enjoyed the most successful period in its 10-year history under Matt’s stewardship and developing CMDA management skills. This includes a major contribution towards the ‘Good’ Ofsted judgement for ATTFE in June 2017, with Construction being specifically mentioned several times.
Learners completing their courses have achieved a 100% pass rate for 2 years running.
Matt’s progress and achievements have been recognised by ATT and won him an employee recognition award, presented at a high-profile event at the House of Commons in July.
