Nicola Powling

Assistant Principal – Teaching and Learning  |  Mildenhall College Academy

I have been a teacher of History for nearly 20 years, faculty leader for Humanities and now a senior leader with responsibility for the quality of teaching and learning and people development.

My passion is developing teachers to be the best they can be and in doing so improving the quality of education and life chances for the children we teach. I love working with early career teachers as they hone their craft and develop their teaching style, as well as increasing their impact in the classroom by embedding evidence-informed practice.

“I have really enjoyed facilitating the NPQLTD and sharing my experiences as a school leader of planning and implementing a PD curriculum to meet the needs of a wide range of staff. The training materials provided to the facilitators and participants have given me the opportunity to stay up to date with the most recent educational research and evidence-informed practice. In preparing to deliver the sessions, it has allowed valuable reflection time to evaluate my own practice and to consider the stages of effective implementation in driving school improvement. I have had the pleasure of working with a range of colleagues with a genuine desire to improve the outcomes of the young people they work with through contributing to the effective design and implementation of professional development in their own contexts”.
