With over two decades of experience in education, Elyse is a dedicated and passionate Principal specialising in Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) provision. For the past 15 years, she has worked in our primary SEMH school Phoenix Academy, where she has been instrumental in shaping a nurturing, inclusive environment that supports some of the most vulnerable learners in our community.

Her career began with a strong foundation in the creative arts. she earned a degree in Ceramics from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC), and went on to run a successful ceramics business. This creative background continues to inform her approach to education—valuing expression, resilience, and hands-on learning. She later completed my PGCE at Birmingham City University, transitioning into teaching with a focus on both academic and emotional development.

In addition to her work with children, Elyse has taught adult learners in further education settings, delivering both basic skills and creative courses. This experience has deepened her understanding of lifelong learning and the importance of accessible education for all.

Elyse is an active member of the SEBA (Specialist Education and Behavioural Alliance) group and participates in a monthly SEMH Heads network, where she collaborates with fellow leaders to share best practices, reflect on challenges, and drive innovation in specialist education.

Her leadership is rooted in empathy, creativity, and a deep commitment to improving outcomes for pupils with special educational needs. Elyse believes in the power of strong relationships, high expectations, and tailored support to unlock every learner’s potential.
