Stuart Pryke

Assistant Principal, Iceni Academy

Having a leadership coach this year as part of the Aspirant System Leaders Programme has been an extraordinary experience, one that has been both thought provoking and invaluable. In my one and a half years as an Assistant Principal, I’ve learnt that it’s quite easy to feel like you’re drowning, like there’s too much to try and consider and fix at once. My coach has been the calm in the storm, the person who has given me the confidence to utilise strategies that otherwise I would have refrained from using.

“Through the right amount of challenge, and some really engaging conversation, I feel like I’ve discovered the confidence within myself to be the leader I want to be”.

I would like to think that I’m a reflective practitioner, yet having Natalie as a coach helped me evaluate certain areas of my practice that I wouldn’t have considered before. Through the right amount of challenge, and some really engaging conversation, I feel like I’ve discovered the confidence within myself to be the leader I want to be. I have a better understanding of my own goals and aims.

One of my main takeaways from the sessions is that I had the answers I was seeking within me, I just needed someone to nudge me in the right direction. I’m excited to take what I have learnt and apply this to my everyday practice. Looking back, I genuinely feel like I have changed so much in terms of growing as a leader that ‘past me’ would be unrecognisable, and I know being a coachee has played a vital and integral role in that.
